Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Are you creating WordPress websites for your clients? Are your clients small businesses? If so, this page is for you. This explains how you can work with us to host your clients’ websites. The process is simple: we focus on hosting your clients’ websites on WP Engine, you focus on building and populating them.
Will I have a testing server location until the project goes live?
Yes, you’ll be able to access the website before it goes live using a temporary WP Engine staging address. When it’s ready to go live, we set up the proper domain mapping, fix any URLs and handle the DNS changes.
If a client leaves after a year, what do you charge to move the site to their new provider?
We do not charge for migrations, whether that’s onto WP Engine or away from it.
Does the client have ownership of the website?
The client owns the website outright — if they decide to leave, they take all of their content, images and theme files with them. We provide various plugin licenses which are non-transferable; the client would be responsible for taking over these plugins themselves. Instructions on licenses will be made available as part of the transfer process.
If a website goes down, is it included in your fee to bring it back up?
Yes, that’s our responsibility. We don’t charge to fix problems with the website.
Can I invoice my clients for hosting? How does that work?
It doesn’t matter who pays — you or your clients. We collect payment for each website automatically from a credit card or bank account on file, on a yearly or monthly basis. A reminder email is sent 7 days before future charges, and an automatic receipt is sent once payment is received.
Do you give bulk discounts?
We don’t currently offer bulk discounts. You’re welcome to add your own margin on top of our hosting fee if that makes sense for your business — our prices are already competitive for WP Engine-powered hosting.
Do you have a service package for updates?
Yes. Across all the websites we host, we handle updates to WordPress core, plugins and themes whenever updates are available from the plugin or theme author. If something needs attention, it’s included as part of hosting.
What else do you provide as part of hosting?
– Create temporary development site
– Install themes and plugins supplied by you or your client
– Register a domain name, or migrate an existing one
– DNS configuration and management
– Set up stats
– Set up site monitoring and deal with any problems
– Launch the website when ready
What would be considered outside of hosting?
The following services would be examples of work we’d recommend hiring a web developer for:
– Customisation to a theme or child theme
– Setting up custom post types
– Setting up custom fields
– Content updates
– Purchasing, installing or supporting premium themes and plugins
– Configuring and setting up Gravity Forms, The Events Calendar, WooCommerce, etc.
Can you think of any other details that I should know?
Hosting plans include a set amount of visits and storage, reviewed on a yearly basis. If your traffic suddenly increases, you may need to move to a higher plan when your plan renews. See our Plans page for more details.
We host every website on WP Engine’s managed platform, giving you enterprise-grade performance, security and support behind the scenes.
